Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa

The most visited attraction of the Slovak Paradise is of course the Dobšinská Ice Cave, included in the UNESCO list since 2000. Once the public came here to skate, today they come here to admire the ice creations.

However, visitors have been coming to admire it since 1871 when it was opened to the public. In 1887, it was even electrically lit, making it one of the first electrically lit caves in the world! I would therefore start my tour of the Slovak Paradise right here! The cave is open from May until the end of September.

Tomášovský výhľad

If you want to see the Slovak Paradise from above, one of the best viewpoints is definitely at the Tomášovský výhľad! On a 200-meter-high rock face, nature has created a viewing terrace for us, from which you can see not only the Slovak Paradise but also the High Tatras.

Getting here is very easy… From Spišské Tomášovce it’s a short walk (1.5km / 45min)! No ladders, along a forest path that even children can handle, and the view is really worth it! Just be careful when you’re on the rock, stay away from the edge! Just below the Tomášovský výhľad there is a cave that is also worth visiting. You get there from the right side of the view.

TANAP Museum Tatranská Lomnica

The TANAP Museum continues the traditions dating back to 1883, when the Hungarian Carpathian Society founded the Carpathian Museum in Poprad. In 1949, the Tatra National Park Act was adopted. One of the tasks of the park administration was to create a Research Station and Museum. The TANAP Museum was located in the Podtatransky Museum in Poprad from its inception in 1957 to 1959. After moving to Tatranská Lomnica, the first exhibition was created in the so-called Sečenív Summer Palace. The new exhibition was installed in a new building, one of the first purpose-built museum buildings in Slovakia.

The museum's collections contain numerous objects from the fields of botany, zoology, history, cartography, geology and ethnography. For larger groups, the museum also offers film screenings with a capacity of 72 seats, and in the souvenir shop you can purchase postcards, maps, books, DVDs, brochures, stickers, and products made from natural materials - leather or clay.

Hunting Lodge Hohenlohe:

A Royal Legacy Built between 1883 and 1885 by Prussian Prince Christian Craft Hohenlohe, this unique wooden lodge offers stunning views of both the Belianske and High Tatras. The Prince, a passionate hunter, transformed the estate into a premier destination for European aristocracy and introduced exotic wildlife like bison and ibex to the local forests. Today, the Prince and his companion Ottília rest in the nearby Javorina cemetery, leaving behind a fascinating piece of alpine history.

The lodge has remarkably preserved its original appearance, including rare artifacts like hunting trophies, period weaponry, and specialized binoculars by Jacob Merz. Although it served as a retreat for the communist elite in the 1970s, the castle remains a treasure trove of historical photographs and original furnishings. While some artifacts were moved to the family’s German residence or lost over time, the lodge still offers an authentic glimpse into the grand lifestyle of the 19th-century nobility.
